~February 27, 2012- Remember The Titans~

Elder Garcia is in the OldTown Spanish ward, and living in Alexandra which is a city in Virginia. He says that in the movie, "Remember the Titans" the high school that the movie was filmed at was actually in Alexandra! And it's right at the edge of his area! -- The live in apart of town dubbed "Chirilagua" because of all the Salvadorenos who live there from a place in El Salvador called Chirilagua. It's the ghettoest place in around here he says.  Also, a few minutes north of them is a city called Crystal City. It is very nice will many high towers, the night life style place, and right and there is the Arlington National Cemetery which is very big and super gorgeous. There are a lot of movies that have filmed it.
Elder Garcia and Elder Oliverson had there little lemonade stand thingy last week, except they didn't have lemonade, they gave out free sodas instead. He said it was great! They made a trifold board and put "Meet the Mormons" on it in Spanish and in English right infront of the metro entrance, so alot of people got to see them. There were some who stopped to talk to them, and many others who didn't, but they enjoyed it and  gave out around 6 copies of the Book of Mormon in 3 hours.

~February 20, 2012- Joys Of The Gospel!~

Since Elder Garcia's birthday day was last week, We sent him a package full of ties!! Lots of them! He loved them, and so did his companion and roomates!! Also, Elder Garcia just realized that they can see the Washington Monument from their street!
So the Sanchez family is an inactive family that they have been meeting with, and one of the sons actually was baptized this week! That has helped the family a lot. He hopes that they will all come around and see what the joys of the gospel can bring their whole family. They were all there at the baptism thought! The nonmember dad, and the 4 less active brothers and sisters with their spouses. They also got one new investigator from it, so they are so excited! He said that it was a beautiful baptism. It was Elder Oliverson's first one, and he did it perfectly.
--Today they are going to volunteer at the library they are e-mailing at!

~February 13, 2012- Giving Service!~

Last week Elder Garcia and Elder Oliverson found a Salvation Army and thought it was just a store, but it was actually a church congregation! not the store! They decided to just ask one of the ladies there if there was any service they could give, she looked at them funny and was surprised that someone would be willing to help out for FREE! She had a southern accent which they thought was cool!
Elder Garcia got another flat tire this week and needs major repairs sohe got an old bike from a guy who gave him his bike (which happened to be a girls bike!) so he took off some bolts and screws, the chain, the gear system, brake line and switched them into my bike! He says that its great now!
Elder Garcia and Elder Oliverson are really excited for the upcoming weeks. They are volunteering at a local library and might be volunteers at the YMCA there too. Also they are planning to put up a little lemonade stand and have a sign that says MEET THE MORMONS! So anyone who wants free lemonade can also read about what we believe. They also are having a baptism this week of a little boy! Elder Garcia wanted Elder Oliverson to baptize him and he is super excited for that because it will be his first, and he has to say it in Spanish!!
Elder Garcia says that he is gaining lots of weight!! Below is a cute picture of a missionary that he says he is going to look like in a few months! ;)
(Also, today is Elder Garcia's Birthday!!! He's 21!)

February 6, 2012~In Learning You Will Teach, and In Teaching You will Learn~

Elder Garcia is doing well and working hard! He loves the kids he teaches and learns from them so much! He says that he can listen to Disney music, so sometimes he listens to Tarzan. He loves the part in the song were it says "In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn." He has seen that as he teaches his companion as well as with others.
